Artist Statement and Bio

ARTIST STATEMENT

The beauty and uniqueness of my subject, inspire me to paint that image. I feel a sense of engagement and I rely on painting as my form of meditation.  Composition, color, value, light and shadow are among the features of a painting that I find fascinating when I am creating a story.  

BIO

Kathleen (Bragg) Murphy grew up in Quidi Vidi Village; just minutes from downtown St. John’s, province of Newfoundland and Labrador. As a visual artist for over 20 years, she enjoys painting a variety of subjects and her preferred medium is acrylic. She enjoys painting images that tell a story.  Kathleen’s work has been exhibited on local, national, and international levels. 

The most recent highlights of Kathleen’s career include being awarded the Exhibiting Membership Badge with the Federation of Canadian Artists in 2024; and creating and exhibiting a comparative series of 12 paintings of Quidi Vidi Village in 2020.
